Dear Pro-Life Friends,
One of the main battlegrounds for Pro-Life vs Pro-Choice America is Germantown, MD. Dr. Leroy Carhart is here killing children through the 2nd and even the 3rd trimester with no regulations from the state of Maryland.
The loopholes in our Maryland laws allow women to travel from various states (and even countries) to have the lawful termination of their late term pregnancy by Dr. Leroy Carhart. Dr. Carhart travels all the way from Nebraska on a weekly basis to keep up the lawful killing of fully formed, viable human babies, even practicing well into the nighttime hours on Mother’s Day & Father’s Day to do the deeds of darkness (and numerous other Sunday nights as well).
Christians concerned about the boys and girls that are slaughtered weekly in Germantown are coming together to prayerfully and peacefully demonstrate during the 9 day Summer of Mercy 2.0 (July 30th-Aug. 7 – www.summerofmercy.com).
We have seen many pro-life victories in this past year and are praying for a big tipping point for a Pro-Life America. Our goal is to end the killing in Maryland and America of innocent children in the womb. Fetal pain laws are now being passed in many states due to the scientific proof that unborn children do indeed feel pain in the womb. As the technology of ultrasounds continues to improve, the heinous acts of abortion are being exposed. As post-abortive woman come out of the shadows and share their heartache and pain, it is plain for all to see that women know instinctively that killing their offspring is awful to live with. They need our prayers, Christian love, and forgiveness found at the cross of Jesus Christ.
The Pro-choice activists have sensed the growing swell of Pro-Life concern in Germantown, MD and they are putting all of their energies this Summer into what they are calling the “Summer of Choice”. They are calling for the greatest pro-choice demonstration in history to come to Germantown and show their support for their hero, Dr. Leroy Carhart. They have borrowed our idea of a prayer walk and they are doing their own walk on Sunday afternoon, July 31st to raise monies for those who cannot afford their abortion. They are planning counter demonstrations during the Summer of Mercy dates.
When I discovered what the pro-choice activists are up to, the same week as us, my prayer has been that what Satan meant for poison, God would turn into medicine. I want to appeal to you to come and be an advocate for the children at risk in the womb. 1/3 of our current generation has been killed off through this holocaust of abortion.
Here is a list of the various rallies, prayer gatherings, and optional fasts during the Summer of Mercy:
- There are going to be three Pro-Life rallies at Covenant Life church on Saturday, July 30th; Sunday, July 31st (youth emphasis); & Saturday, Aug. 6th. All three of these rallies are at 7 PM. There will be a live ultrasound presentation at the opening kick-off rally on Saturday night & Father Frank Pavone will be one of the main speakers that evening.
- During the week of August 1-5th there will be prayer gatherings at 8 AM & noon & evening outdoor rallies at 7PM at Wisteria & Executive Park Drive. We will need folks to park behind the Hard Times Café & Bed, Bath, & Beyond - off of Middlebrook Road for all of these gatherings.
- We are also having a closing prayer rally at Wisteria & Executive Park Drive at 2 PM on Sunday, Aug. 7th. We will be gathering at the intersection of Wisteria & Executive Park Drive and then we will be forming a human cross along the sidewalks of Wisteria up to Rt. 118 and then spreading out on 118 in both directions. More information will be forthcoming on the Cross 4 Life closing prayer rally.

A Prophetic Pro-Life Outreach in Germantown, Maryland.
Twenty years after the historic “Summer of Mercy” abortion protests in Wichita, Kansas, thrust the matter of abortion into the national public eye, Operation Rescue is once again calling for Americans of conscience to converge upon a late-term abortion clinic, this time in Germantown, Maryland, from July 31 through August 7 for what will be known as the “Summer of Mercy 2.0.”
“We sense a critical need to gather in Germantown to expose the horrific late-term abortion business of LeRoy Carhart, to prayerfully intervene on behalf of the babies that are scheduled to die, and to provide a peaceful yet powerful pro-life witness to the nation,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.
Activities during the Summer of Mercy 2.0 event will include round-the-clock prayer and worship, inspiring evening rallies with national political and Christian leaders, and cutting edge public events. It promises to be an historic season of prayerful and prophetic witness in Maryland.
The event is being planned by a coalition of pro-life/pro-family groups, including Operation Rescue, the Christian Defense Coalition, the Maryland Coalition for Life, and several local churches.
Americans overwhelming oppose late-term abortions, and Carhart may be among the worst in the nation. He is currently under criminal investigation in his home state of Nebraska for illegal and unsafe practices brought forward by his former employees. In Maryland, he is the subject of a full and active investigation by the Maryland Board of Physicians.
Carhart aborts babies in Maryland through the ninth month of pregnancy, when risks to the woman dramatically increase, even though he has no hospital privileges, and has not had any since 1987. Carhart was involved in the avoidable third-trimester abortion death of 19-year old Christin Gilbert in 2005.
“This summer we believe God is calling the pro-life community to come to Germantown, Maryland for ‘The Summer of Mercy 2.0.’ It is our hope and prayer that as scores come to ‘establish justice in the gates’ we will see an end to the violence of abortion and especially the practice of late-term abortion provider LeRoy Carhart,” said Rev. Patrick Mahoney, who heads the Christian Defense Coalition and is one of the event organizers.
“Now is time for us the embrace the cross and walk in radical obedience unto the Lord. Our desire is to see a sovereign God powerfully move, shift history, bring awakening to our nation and end abortion,” said Newman. “Twenty years ago, ‘The Summer of Mercy’ changed America forever. It is our hope and prayer that ‘The Summer of Mercy 2.0’ will bring even greater change and transformation to our nation. We urge all pro-lifer supporters to join us in Maryland to touch hearts, save lives and make history.”
