Pro-Life Alert: Fall 2011 40 Days for Life Alexandria Campaign Launches!

Well, the big day is here, and I just can't tell you how excited I am to launch our Fall 2011 pro-life effort!

We are exactly two months away from Day One of our sixth 40 Days for Life campaign here in Alexandria, VA. On that day, we will be joining hundreds of cities around the world in a focused, coordinated pro-life effort consisting of 40 days of prayer and fasting, 40 days of peaceful vigil at our local abortion facility, and 40 days of community outreach to change hearts and minds on the great tragedy of abortion. I humbly ask you please to help us spread the word about this upcoming event in our community!

Our fall campaign will begin on September 28 and run through November 6 of this year. We will offer extensive prayer and fasting resources and encouragement to all volunteers, as well as the opportunity to sign up for daily 40 Days for Life devotionals and updates. Our prayer vigil at the abortion facility will run from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily, and we encourage experienced prayer volunteers to enlist as a "shift leader" and commit to a two hour or more time slot at the vigil weekly. Our pre-campaign outreach will begin on Sunday afternoons in Old Town starting August 28 from 2-5pm, and we will offer sidewalk counseling and pro-life persuasion workshops in the weeks before kickoff. Our "Cast the Vision" meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 24, at 7:30pm, at St. Mary's Lyceum, 313 Duke Street. This meeting is a great opportunity for group leaders and interested individuals to learn more about the fall campaign and share ideas and input. All are welcome to attend.

Please help us spread the word -- forward this message, use our Fall 2011 Flyer and Bulletin Insert, or just talk about the upcoming campaign with family and friends -- so that many people will have the opportunity to participate in 40 Days for Life this fall! Please also help us spread the word about our "Cast the Vision" meeting by inviting anyone who is involved in pro-life ministry or may be willing to contribute to our efforts. Finally, for those who may feel led to share financial support, a list of local needs is available on our website.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to share this message about 40 Days for Life with you! Please let me know if you have questions or need more information about anything. I am really looking forward to leading our fall 2011 campaign, and to working with you though prayer, peaceful vigil, and outreach on behalf of our unborn brothers and sisters here in Alexandria.

Pro-Life Alert: Fall 2011 Alexandria 40 Days for Life Campaign to Launch Thursday!

I just learned the exciting news: another abortion clinic has closed in La Puente, CA, and I wanted to alert you to our upcoming Alexandria 40 Days for Life campaign launch this Thursday!

This important pro-life victory in La Puente is thanks to Almighty God and the La Puente 40 Days for Life campaign team, as well as to YOUR prayers. We know God never lets our prayers go unanswered or unheeded -- so a big THANK-YOU to all who have participated in past 40 Days for Life campaigns, or just prayed to end abortion!

We know the fight to end abortion is above all a spiritual battle, so this victory in La Puente shows first and foremost the power of God. However, we also see what can happen when one community bands together in prayer and fasting, peaceful vigil, and community outreach through 40 Days for Life, and I'm really looking forward to conducting our sixth local campaign this fall with you!

I won't give specific details now, but I just wanted to let you know that our official launch date is this Thursday, July 27, so please forward this message to anyone you know who may be interested in joining our team, and be on the lookout for more information at that time!

Bereit to Speak in DC Tuesday

National 40 Days for Life director David Bereit will speak at the DC Theology on Tap evening at Ireland's Four Fields (3412 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington DC), on Tuesday, July 19, 7:30-8:30pm. The event is sponsored by the Young Adult Ministry Archdiocese of Washington. Event summary follows:

DC’s Summer Theology on Tap Six Pack, Living in the City 2.0 concludes with David Bereit, the National Director of 40 Days for Life. The evening begins with happy hour at 6:30 and the talk will follow at 7:30. Following the Q&A period, we’ll draw the winner of the iPad 2!

David Bereit became an outspoken pro-life advocate after Planned Parenthood announced plans to build an abortion clinic in his Texas town in 1998. He helped to start and build a local grassroots coalition that rallied 60 churches and thousands of people together and dramatically reduced abortions in the region. In 2005 he moved to Washington, DC where he served as executive director of American Life League and national director of Stop Planned Parenthood until being asked to lead the national 40 Days for Life campaign. His pro-life work has been featured in the media hundreds of times, including coverage on Fox News, HBO, ABC, NBC and CBS television stations, numerous radio programs, and in over 100 newspapers across the country including USA Today, The Washington Post, and The Los Angeles Times. David and his wife Margaret have two children.

Theology on Tap is a program of the Office of Young Adult Ministry that reaches out to young adults interested in exploring the role of faith in their daily lives. Held at Ireland’s Four Fields (3412 Connecticut Ave., NW - just one block south of the Cleveland Park Metro), Theology on Tap provides an opportunity to explore your faith and mix and mingle with young adults from across the DC metro area.
