Great Turnout and Participation at Cast the Vision Friday Night!

The 40 Days for Life - Alexandria, VA, team held a successful "Cast the Vision" informational event Friday night at St. Mary's Lyceum! All team leaders were able to be present, and attendance was excellent - up about 400% from last year! - including representatives from about six Catholic parishes, as well as George Mason University Law School.

Another Security Guard Quits

This story is sent by Brian Gibson of Pro-Life Action Ministries, from their Orlando office:
Another Security Guard Quits
Due to the continued ministry efforts with a new security guard at one of the Orlando abortion mills, he has left the business of killing innocent little children!
It was an amazing time to spend with this young man who did not want to be at this job, but vowed to let God use him while he was there. He shared much vital information with us, such as doctors names/personalities, exc. He also was used to save babies!
The most incredible and horrific thing that happened was when he walked into the building for something and noticed the nurse behind a curtain, it was open just enough for him to see the nurse picking up little babies legs and chucking them into a bucket, he than saw her pick up a torso of a baby and throw it into the bucket as well. He was sickened, horrified and knew he couldn't go on no matter what!
The words that were spoken to him by many of us on the sidewalk, "God will bless you and honor you if you quit," stood out to him and he couldn't perform his duties or continue this job. He refused to walk the abortionist from his/her car to the door of the abortuary, exc.
While taking a few days off to look for another job, the abortion center planned to fire him, but he never came back, he left in God's perfect timing and trusted God to take care of him! Please pray for this man!
Brian comments, "By God's grace, we are saving lives and helping abortion workers quit. Please join in with this amazing work of God!"

Let's thank God for touching this man's heart, and continue to pray for more conversions like this one. With our 40 Days for Life campaign fast approaching, prayers for miracles like this will be our focus and mission!

Part I Description:
Get ready for our 40 Days for Life campaign this spring with "Making Abortion Unthinkable: The Art of Pro-Life Persuasion," by Gregory Koukl & Scott Klusendorf, moderated by 40 Days for Life - Fairfax and Pro-Life Unity leader Jonathan Darnel.

This interactive group study is an engaging, easy-to-follow, well-reasoned seminar in the art of pro-life persuasion. It has been used to train hundreds of Crisis Pregnancy Center volunteers......, staff, and board members as well as many church members. The seminar includes discussion, role-playing, tactical tips, self-assessment and more - everything needed to equip your group to defend the pro-life position. The scientific and philosophical cases against abortion are covered thoroughly. You'll also learn how to answer the objections pro-abortionists use.

"We used Making Abortion Unthinkable with our volunteers and they loved it. Although most of them have had intensive training in talking with people about abortion, this resource helped them be more precise in their thoughts and verbalize them more effectively. I have seen a difference in the confidence level among those who went through this series."
-Kathryn Wade - Executive Director, Aiken Pregnancy Care Center

Take advantage of this opportunity to bolster your pro-life reasoning and discussions with others, and gear up for our 40 Days for Life campaign this spring! You'll be glad you did!

Part II Description:
Can you save babies and mothers from abortion?!? Yes, by the grace of God and with some training you truly can. But you won't know until you try, right? Here's your chance to learn how from experienced and effective counselors. Learn how you can counsel the abortion bound in front of these child-killing centers from the public sidewalk.

Continue your preparations for our 40 Days for Life campaign this spring with "Strategy and... Approach to Sidewalk Counseling," compiled and presented by Dick Retta, Lifeguard sidewalk counselor since 2001 and personally responsible for over 300 saves. The opening overview, followed by discussion and role-playing, presents an engaging, easy-to-follow, and well-reasoned overview of the subject, based on front-line experience and the teaching of experts such as Msgr. Reilly and Karen Black. It is designed to help prospective sidewalk counselors gain an understanding of what is happening in front of the abortion mills, and be able to counsel and assist a friend or someone they might meet that is abortion minded.

You will learn
- the three basic things to remember when in front of an abortion mill
- the nature of the abortion-minded woman
- three key strategy points
- what to say (QHA)
- important dos and don'ts
- counseling on the fly
- deathscorts
- different types of abortion mills
- handouts, case examples

Sidewalk counselors and prayer warriors are the last line of defense for unborn children and mothers who are at risk of being harmed or killed by abortion. More sidewalk counselors are urgently needed at all abortion facilities in our communities.

Interested in becoming a Sidewalk Counselor or want to know more about sidewalk counseling? Take advantage of this opportunity to equip yourself to help abortion-minded women and their children, and be better prepared for 40 Days for Life this spring! You'll be glad you did!

Combined Session Description:
This is a combination of our "Part I: Making Abortion Unthinkable" and "Part II: Sidewalk Counseling" sessions, and will be offered in a Spanish-English format. Individuals of English or Spanish-speaking backgrounds are welcome to attend. The presenters will be accompanied by a translator, who will facilitate all communications in Spanish. Please contact Jacinta Whittaker with any questions, jacinta.40days@gmail.com.

Registration is free, although a free-will offering may be taken to offset cost of handouts and supplies. For more information or to register, email Sara Dina, Event Coordinator, at jandsdina@cox.net or Jacinta Whittaker, Program Director, jacinta.40days@gmail.com.

40 Days for Life Spring 2011: Planning Begins!

I would like to open our first 2011 campaign blog post with a quote from one of my modern pro-life heroes, Dr. John Bruchalski. This is a West Point cadet maxim, but the last two lines are added:

Risk more than others think is safe.
Care more than others think is wise.
Dream more than others think is practical.
Expect more than others think is possible.
Why?
Because with Him, all things are possible.

Yes, it's true that with God, all things are possible, even the most critical dreams of our hearts, and surely respect by all for human life falls into this realm.

So it is with great joy and confidence that I announce our Spring 2011 40 Days for Life campaign here in beautiful Alexandria, VA. Planning has already begun in earnest for our fifth local campaign. Let's think big, and open our hearts to His will! Please join our 2011 team to keep yourself updated and work for the end of abortion in our city!

If you would like to be included on our Spring Campaign mailing list, please register with the new Spring 2011 team through our website or Facebook page. Our email needs have grown since last fall, and our new Mailchimp system will allow you to manage your preferences, as well as indicate your church and level of interest. Campaign updates and information will be sent through this new system, and not through the method we have used in the past. It will thus be necessary to register for the spring campaign if you would like to receive email updates.

There are several important related initiatives seeking our attention at this time: the UnPLANNED book release, the Virginia Rally for Life, and the March for Life in D.C. on Monday, Jan. 24. All three events have serious potential to shape our future, and need our promotion and participation. Please assist in these as able, and play your part for the precious unborn!

Spring 2011 40 Days for Life begins officially here and around the world on Ash Wednesday, March 9, and extends through Palm Sunday, April 17. We will be holding our Kickoff Rally before the campaign begins, and hope to send you more details as the time draws closer.

Training for all volunteers
will be offered in February in the areas of sidewalk counseling and speaking with others about the pro-life position. We are planning to schedule these training sessions over several times and locations to give everyone the opportunity to participate. I hope you will be able to attend one of these sessions, which I have personally found to be extremely helpful and motivating.

Official campaign events begin with our Cast the Vision informational meeting for individuals and community leaders, to be held on Friday, January 28th, from 7:30-8:30pm at St. Mary's Lyceum (313 Duke St, Alexandria). All are invited to learn our campaign goals for the spring, and how you and your group can help make this effort a success. Please see our website for more details or to RSVP.

Let us band together in this New Year in a renewed effort against the culture of death, and to promote a vibrant and flourishing culture of life in our community. Let us take advantage of the many opportunities to defend life offered to us this month, and in the weeks and months ahead as we keep in mind the innocent unborn, who are being killed day by day across our land. And let us ask Jesus, the little baby born in a manger, who came to free us from all sin and death, to heal our land, and to help us accomplish all good things, in His Holy Name.

I hope you had a merry Christmastide, and wish you a Happy New Year!

God bless,

Jacinta Whittaker
