A Note From the Outreach Coordinator

Paul Spicer sends the latest from the door-to-door front and invites you to participate!
I became involved in the pro-life movement through 40 Days for Life last fall. In addition to participating in the vigil, I helped spread the pro-life message by going door to door. Now as community outreach coordinator in Alexandria this spring, I am continuing to spread awareness of the evils of abortion.

Nothing is rewarding unless it is challenging. Being able to inform average people how abortion affects the unborn and the psychological damage it can do to women is very enriching. It is evident we are making a difference since most people do not know what a 4-week-old child looks like, for example, or that its heart has already started beating.

In addition, being on the front lines defending life when public opinion has already turned away from the pro-choice position gives me motivation to keep doing more. Over the last two years, Gallup has shown that more Americans consider themselves pro-life than pro-choice. This is the first time in Gallup history that the pro-life movement has the majority. And Virginia just passed legislation that will regulate abortion clinics like hospitals/surgical centers. It has been reported that 17 of the 21 VA clinics could shut down as a result.

Now I am not asking volunteers who would like to walk with me on Saturdays to knock on every door or speak with everyone that they see. The literature that you will be handing out speaks for itself. The iCare newspaper covers abortion from top to bottom. Pictures of fetal development, abortion methods, psychological and physical side effects from abortion are all extensively discussed. We also pass out 40 Days for Life flyers with crisis pregnancy resources so that women who lack financial means can receive quality prenatal care. In a nutshell, what we pass out informs and helps women concerning unexpected pregnancy and abortion.

Currently we have hit 4,000 residences within the city of Alexandria, and with your help, I know we can achieve much more! With the weather getting warmer, it is a great opportunity to get good exercise, make friends, and yes, even get a tan! We start at 9:30 AM and walk until 4:30 PM. If you can only stay an hour to walk just one street, it will be really appreciated in the eyes of God – I could not think of a better way to volunteer your time for such a noble undertaking.

So I invite you to join us for the three remaining Saturdays of our campaign! Going door-to-door is a very rewarding experience and will allow you to grow closer to God by being a valiant soldier in the defense of the defenseless.
